This book is a history and an interpretation of the civilization of Spain from its earliest beginnings. There are chapters on the Romans, the Jews, and the Moors in Spain, and particular attention has been paid to Spanish art, literature, architecture, and music.

I have not tried to write a topical or journalistic portrait of Spain today, although the Franco regime and its many problems are soberly presented.

Crow. Read March This is a fairly interesting history of Spain by an author who has a deep love-hate relationship with the country. Crow studied in Spain, earning his PhD from Madrid in the tumultuous mids. What makes this book a unique history is something that will either likely win over or alienate the readers of this book, and that is the author's personal touch and his replacement of a narrative flow for Spanish history with a discussion of vital historical questions and problems that historians of Spain (and Portugal) have to wrestle with when writing their own histories/5.
